HI, I’M SHERI STAHL RN, BsCn, MA, RCC
Thank you for having the courage to be here. You may be wondering who I am and if my approach aligns with your needs and vision for therapy. I am the Owner and Director of Amethyst Therapy Inc.
My career in the helping profession began in 2012 when I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. As a new grad, my focus was in nephrology and the complexity of chronic disease. It became clear to me that chronic disease and mental health co-exist and my passion shifted towards mental health.
Many people who are seeking mental health support have experienced trauma, intergenerational trauma, chronic pain and/or chronic disease.
After working in various roles in community mental health and addictions, I began to evaluate my experience within the healthcare system and the ways in which we help people. The framework within the government model is often solution-focused and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I was able to see firsthand the limitations of these approaches and wanted to be able to help people on a deeper level and get to the root of their distress and trauma.
This passion inspired me to further my education and begin my Masters of Counselling Psychology. While studying, I developed a passion for EMDR. This approach allows me to address trauma on a deeper level and help clients achieve lasting changes and symptom reduction. The benefits of EMDR extend beyond PTSD and trauma, check out the About EMDR page to learn more.
Outside of my professional role, I am cisgendered (She/Her) and a status First Nations woman from the Stó:lō Nation. I was born and raised in Williams Lake. I love this community and feel proud to share the beauty of the Cariboo with my husband and our three children. In my spare time, I enjoy camping with my family, chasing our chickens, hiking with the dogs and reading.
I celebrate and encourage diversity, and welcome members of the LGBTQIA2S communities.
