Advantages of group therapy

As a therapist, I have personally seen the benefits of group therapy in aiding individuals with a variety of mental health applications. Virtual therapy has become more common and increases accessibility for clients. One of the online platforms that have been commonly used is Zoom. Amethyst Therapy is excited to announce a new group that will introduce clients to private practice and help clients prepare and understand Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which involves a unique type of therapy to help individuals overcome trauma. Now, let’s dive into the advantages of group therapy using Zoom, and what that looks like.

Supportive Environment

One of the benefits of group therapy using Zoom is creating a supportive and safe environment for individuals who may be struggling with similar issues. It’s easier to navigate through therapy when one is surrounded by individuals who are going through the same thing and can relate to your experiences. Group therapy via Zoom allows you to attend sessions from the comfort of your home, and remain autonomous, should you choose.

Cost-effective

Group therapy sessions are more cost-effective than individual therapy sessions. Clients can participate in group therapy for a lesser fee while still gaining access to high-quality therapy services. This group is aimed at helping clients understand the benefits of counselling, the biology and physiology of emotional distress and preparation for EMDR.

Holistic Healing

Group therapy sessions help clients to view their problems from a holistic perspective. It allows individuals to observe how others are navigating challenges and provides them with new coping mechanisms and strategies for their unique problems. Group therapy is also a collaborative effort between a therapist and individuals in the group, which leads to the development of trust, a supportive community, and ultimately reaching long-term goals.

Group content

In this three-week group series, we'll discuss the impact of low mood and anxiety on our bodies. Common reactions of stress and trauma, and the steps that we can take towards a path of healing. We will cover the types of counselling approaches offered at Amethyst Therapy, and how they can benefit. Participants will receive handouts at the end of each session. Attending this group will give you an advantage when starting counselling at Amethyst Therapy, preparing you for both individual counselling and EMDR.

In conclusion, group therapy using Zoom has a unique set of advantages that can help individuals learn from the therapist, and others attending the group. At Amethyst Therapy, we are excited to incorporate this new group to help clients prepare and understand our approach to counselling and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and we are excited to host our first group series!
